What it is
The Alpha65 is a three-port wall charger from GravaStar built on gallium nitride (GaN). It is in our Showcase. This review reads the maker's specs and the USB-IF's Power Delivery figures. It is not a bench test.
The specs
- Output: up to 65W in total
- Ports: two USB-C and one USB-A
- Input: 110–240V
- In the box: US, UK and EU plug adapters
GravaStar says GaN makes the charger 50% smaller than a traditional charger of the same power, and lists protection against overcurrent, overvoltage and heat. The body folds for travel.
What 65W covers
65W is the total across all three ports, so a laptop and a phone share it when both are plugged in. GravaStar's page does not list how the power splits between ports, so check the rating of the charger that came with your laptop before you make this your only brick.
For scale: USB Power Delivery topped out at 100W, over 20V and USB-C cables rated at 5A, until Revision 3.1 raised the ceiling to 240W with new 28V, 36V and 48V levels. A 65W charger sits well inside the older range.
