Every turn is a verse.

Turn the brass crank and three cams lift the whale's rods one after another, so its body rolls like it is swimming.

The same crank plays the music box under the frame.

The frame is open, so you can watch every gear and cam at work.

Watch it move

One clip plays at a time, as it scrolls into view.

A hand turns the crank on the dark wood edition and the blue-violet whale rolls on its rods, a vase of dried grass behind.

A hand turns the crank on the pale wood edition and the pale whale rolls on its rods, a vase of dried grass behind.

What you can see moving

A crank turns a shaft with three cams.

Each cam lifts one brass rod a moment after the last, so the jointed whale rolls from head to tail.

The same shaft drives the music box movement at the bottom of the frame.
